ROADS (CANBERRA)

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has conceded ministerial errors are responsible for an almost
$3 billion loss to motorists in roads funding.

A new report by the Auditor General has reportedly found only 3.1 cents a litre of
fuel excise has been spent on roads, compared to the 4.95 cents a litre set out in law.

Mr HOWARD says he only learnt of the problem this morning and will seek immediate answers
from his government.
